What's new: Inventec and NXP® Semiconductors, the trusted partner for innovative solutions in the automotive market, today announced a laboratory at the Inventec facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The laboratory aims to design and develop Ultra-Wideband (UWB) equipped systems in automotive, such as smart, secure car access, child presence detection, kick sensing, and more, by leveraging the NXP Trimension® UWB portfolio.
Why it matters: NXP's innovative UWB technology has rapidly expanded across industries, particularly in sectors focusing on automation, security, and efficiency. UWB’s precise ranging, and low-power operation capabilities have made it a mainstay for applications that require accurate positioning, including secure access control, indoor positioning, device-to-device communication and item tracking. As these sectors evolve, the demand for solutions offering secure communication and high-performance sensing grows.
With proven record in Server, Inventec announced in 2022 to expand its design capabilities into the automotive market to create”Server in Car,” turning cars into mobile offices and teaming up with NXP for central gateways, in-vehicle servers, and wireless in-vehicle chargers. To enrich the offering to carmakers and Tier-1-suppliers, Inventec extends their portfolio to systems equipped with UWB technology. The laboratory located at the Inventec Taoyuan facility will be a main location for UWB use case innovation, and for discussion, training and the enablement of new applications in automotive, including gateway and wireless chargers, etc.
“NXP's Trimension UWB portfolio enabled us to provide our customers the best-in-class system solutions for smarter and more joyful driver experience and enhanced protection of vulnerable passengers via UWB radar,"said Lino Li, Vice President of Inventec's Automotive Electronics Business Unit. “The establishment of the lab will facilitate the integration of our design capabilities with NXP technologies to develop advanced intelligent automotive solutions for a smarter and safer world.”
Elton Tsang, Senior Sales Director of NXP Semiconductors Taiwan commented: “We are proud to see the strategic collaboration with Inventec has moved to the next milestone and to see Inventec investing in UWB Technology. The lab will accelerate the progress of software-defined vehicles from hype to reality. The auto industry has to become faster and more efficient, and NXP is pleased to extend its system solutions portfolio to enable next generation architectures, electrification, smart and secure car access systems, and more.”
